Mary S. Wellman
ESCANABA – Mary S. Wellman, 93, 2900 3rd Ave S., Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at the Bishop Noa Home.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1919, in Kipling, Mich., daughter of John and Celia (Rantala) Lake. Mary attended the Kipling School. She resided in Iowa for nine years but most of her life lived in Kipling, Gladstone and Escanaba areas.
On Feb. 16, 1946, the former Mary Lake married Ardee Wellman in Gladstone. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1964.
Mary was a senior companion since January of 1985.
She enjoyed being her family, doing crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Among her survivors include her son, Tom (Annie Reilley) Wellman of Escanaba; daughters, Peggy (Tom) Gasparick of Kingsford, Mich., Arlene (John) Gucky of Bark River, Mich., Nancy (Jim Hubert) Wellman and Sally (Bill) Fournier, all of Escanaba; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Kleiman of Escanaba; sister in law, Winnie Lake of Escanaba; and special friend, Carrie Ann Thompson of Escanaba. He was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John, Walter, Robert and infant brothers, William and Wesley.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Fox officiating.
Burial will be in South Ford River Cemetery. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Wellman family.
