Braves tempo too much for Emeralds
MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Emeralds and Gladstone Braves both got off to slow starts Friday night, but the Braves turned up the tempo in the second quarter and ran away with the 52-33 win.
“They were much more aggressive on offense,” said Emeralds coach Kelly Spettel. “We ended up fouling and put them on the line a lot. They played a really good game.”
Gladstone’s leading scorer was Jess Beaudry with 17, followed by Christine Sharon who had 13. But it was the Braves’ defensive effort that helped seal up the contest.
“We turned the ball over 28 times,” Spettel said. “A little bit of that was their pressure, but a little was forcing passes as well.”
Both teams resume Tuesday; Gladstone (5-4) is at Marquette, while Manistique (3-6) hosts Munising.
