Man still in jail after assault

ESCANABA – An Escanaba man remains lodged in jail on a $250,000 cash bond after being charged with assaulting two Escanaba Public Safety officers last week. No one was injured during the incident.

Joshua Jacob Curtis, 33, of 1401 N. 23rd St., Lot 61, Escanaba, was officially charged with assault with intent to murder, a life felony, during his arraignment in Delta County District Court on Friday. He was also charged with assaulting/ resisting/ obstructing a police officer which carries a maximum punishment of two years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

The charges stem from an incident at the Curtis residence Thursday evening, when three officers responded to a possible domestic situation there. Curtis had barricaded himself in a room, came out and allegedly threatened an officer with a knife and resisted a second officer.

Curtis was tasered, arrested and transported to the county jail. His preliminary examination is scheduled for Thursday in district court.
