Remodeling underway at Bonifas Arts Center
ESCANABA – Visitors to the Bonifas Arts Center may have noticed a new look in the Studio area. A remodel by Kenyon Construction has made enclosed studio space and office space of the upper balcony areas.
“Our new offices are wonderful,” said Beth Ann Fudala, Special Events Director for the Center. “Rick did a great job with them – he even made us some fantastic custom bulletin boards.”
Fudala shares office space with Kathryn Morski, who handles public relations for the Center.
“I appreciate the walls,” Morski said, “although I kind of liked the feeling of omniscience the balcony used to give. You could hear almost everything in the Arts Center.”
Office space is in the south balcony, leaving a full north balcony for classes and meetings.
“Having a door with a smaller space to gather in meets the need we’ve felt for space for Board meetings, committee meetings, or informal conferencing,” said Mollie Larsen, Executive Director for the Bonifas. “We asked Rick to improve our downstairs office space in the past, and he did a great job there, so we were glad to have him back to do the balconies.”
Asked what her favorite part of the remodel is, Fudala responded, “the bulletin boards, definitely. I now have space to keep track of all the events we put on here at the Center.”
Morski nominated the north studio’s large interior window that overlooks the Studio.
“That makes it a great green room for our Studio performances,” she said. “If you’re a performer waiting to go onstage downstairs, you can keep track of what’s going on while enjoying a private space.”
Larsen invited the public to visit and admire the new work. “While you’re here, you can also view our Studio exhibit – ‘The Most Daring, Unconventional Women of Our Time’ – about women tattoo artists, and you can take in the new show of Northern undergraduate work in the Powers Gallery.”
Center hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge to visit the Arts Center.
