Police identify victim of fatal accident
ESCANABA TOWNSHIP – The names of those involved in a two-vehicle accident in Escanaba Township Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old Cornell man, have been released.
According to the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, a pickup truck, southbound on County Road 426, struck the back end of an unoccupied pickup truck which had stalled on part of the roadway. The accident occurred at 8:45 a.m. about six miles south of Cornell.
The southbound truck was driven by 47-year-old Ronald Sanville, of Cornell, who appeared to have failed to see the parked vehicle in the roadway, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. Sanville’s son, Lukas Sanville, 19, also of Cornell, was a passenger in the vehicle and was killed from the impact of the crash.
Ronald Sanville was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital by Rampart EMS where he was in good condition, being treated for a head injury. There were no other persons in the vehicle besides the driver and the passenger.
Assisting deputies at the scene were the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Escanaba Public Safety Rescue, Rampart EMS, and Michigan State Police.
