‘Rally for Allie’ — Benefit planned for sick baby

ESCANABA – At just 9-months-old, Allie Grenier of Escanaba was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histocytosis, or LHC, a rare non-hereditary disease that affects 1 in 200,000 children.

The now 10-months-old daughter of Shelly and JP Grenier, is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. Due to low hemoglobin levels, Allie also receives bi-weekly blood transfusions.

In order to offset medical and travel expenses, family members and friends of the Grenier family are holding a spaghetti dinner benefit at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, the Gladstone Armory, located at 604 S. 18th St. in Gladstone.

In addition to dinner, the event will feature live music by local bands Sore on Sunday and Tripod as well as a bake sale, raffle drawing and a live auction. The live auction will begin at 7 and will feature items including an autographed Green Bay Packers James Lofton jersey, and hockey pucks signed by Red Wings players Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Jimmy Howard.

“We are hoping to make this benefit an amazing event filled with love and hope for the Grenier family,” said Amy Lawrence, Rally for Allie Benefit co-chair and a friend and co-worker of Shelly Grenier. “Little Allie has been battling issues for the last six months and has finally been given a diagnosis. The good news is that LCH is treatable and the damage to Allie’s organs has been minimal. We are so thankful that we are able to help this beautiful young family.”

An account in Allie’s name has been set up at Baybank of Gladstone, Escanaba and Rapid River for monetary donations to benefit the Grenier family. Donations can also be made online via credit card by visiting www.giveforward.
