Verna Mae LaPalm

ESCANABA – Verna Mae LaPalm, 73, Escanaba, passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2013, at her home of natural causes.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1940, in Escanaba, daughter of Rene E. and Beatrice M. (Delvaux) Terrien.

On June 28, 1958, the former Verna Terrien married Grant D. LaPalm at Holy Family Parish in Flat Rock.

Verna worked for 20 years farming and then was a seasonal employee at F & G Clothing Co.

She was an avid animal lover throughout her whole life. She especially loved cats. Besides listening to country music and current news, Verna loved watching funny television shows and working on word search puzzles.

Among survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Keith) Pomeroy of Escanaba, Mich., and Renee (Joe) Ouradnik of Wilson; six grandchildren, Jeremy (Maggie) Pomeroy of Traverse City, Mich., Michael (Kristina) Pomeroy, Kevin Pomeroy and Cathy Pomeroy of Escanaba, Cierra and Nathan Ouradnik of Wilson; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly J. Evans of Escanaba; six nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Grant on May 2, 1982; brother-in-law, Leo T. Evans; nephew, Donald J. Evans; and great nephew, Ryan Evans.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Deacon Mike LeBeau officiating. A luncheon will follow in the dining area. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and a memorial will be decided on at a later date. Burial will be in Escanaba Township Cemetery.
