Foundation grants $15,300 to Foster Grandparent Program
ESCANABA – As a result of generous giving by the Menominee, Delta, Schoolcraft communities, the Upper Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program Foundation is able to grant $15,300 to the Menominee, Delta, and Schoolcraft Foster Grandparent Program to be used for the program’s operation for the 2012-13 year.
This grant award will show state and federal funding sources that this program has local support. This support is needed to maintain this program in our communities.
“This year we are able to increase our grant award by $2,100 over last year’s award as a direct result of the generous giving by the communities, local businesses, individuals and school fund-raisers,” states Cindy Brock, Foundation president. “Events like the recent Foundation Fundraiser are not only community building, but bring a smile to your face. We all like to hear positive news and there are so many great stories about our 28th annual fundraiser!” states Cindy Brock, Foundation president. “Individuals like to support causes they believe in as well as that benefit their schools. The Foster Grandparent Program Foundation supports the Foster Grandparent Program.”
This year’s funding will be directed for continuance of the program in area schools and other locations where the Foster Grandparents are assigned to work with children needing that little extra help with their studies and life skills. The Foundation is excited to be a part of helping young people as well as the older generation.
The Foster Grandparents are volunteers receiving a stipend for their services which helps them with living expenses in their retirement years while as the same time enhancing their lives.
The Foundation was established locally in December of 1982 for the sole purpose of assisting the local Foster Grandparent Program with funds needed at the local level for the program’s commitment to state and federal funding sources. The Foundation is doing this, and with this grant has awarded $197,400.00 to the Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Foster Grandparent Program.
The first award of $300 was presented to the program in 1985 and since then has gone up, up and away to the current gift of $15,300.
The Foster Grandparent Program Foundation would like to thank its donors, who have been the source of these significant grants which help sponsor Foster Grandparent activities in the local area.
Persons wishing to send a donation to the Foundation may do so by making out a check to “FGP Foundation” and addressing it to P.O. Box 194, Rapid River, MI 49878.
