Rapid River couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary
RAPID RIVER – John and Dawn Broeders celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 9, 2012. John and the former Dawn Wilbee were married June 9, 1962, at the Congregational Church in Rapid River with Rev. Hazard officiating.
Attending the couple were Joe Patterson, a friend of the groom, as best man, and Shirley Kolli, a friend of the bride, as maid of honor. Groomsmen were Fred Wilbee, brother of the bride, and Dennis Wilbee, cousin of the bride. Robert Wilbee, brother of the bride, served as ring bearer. Bridesmaids were Kathy (Wilbee) Hebert, cousin of the bride, and Linda Lagerquist, a friend of the bride. Janice Holmgren, friend of the bride, served as flower girl.
The couple made their home in Rapid River and are best known for their years as proprietors of their grocery store, the B&W IGA. They also owned an adult foster care home where they resided on Garth Point Lane, Rapid River.
In recent years, John and Dawn share their time between Sun City, Ariz., and Rapid River.
The couple celebrated this special occasion with their children this past summer with a vacation to Maine.
The couple’s family includes: daughter, Deborah (Juergen) Erkert of Glendale, Ariz., and their children, Jason, Mitchell and Keith; daughter, Sandra (Brent) Sauve of Rapid River and their children, Jessica (Adnan) Sauve-Syed of Syracuse, N.Y., and Blair; son, Charles Broeders and friend Larry Klosowski, and children Brendin (Jasma) Broeders of Wichita, Kan., and Morgan (Juan) Rodriguez of Las Vegas, Nev.; and daughter, Sherri Johnston, and her children, Jacob and Rachel.
The Broeders also have two great-granddaughters, Skye Rodriguez and Ella Erkert.
