ESCANABA – A Marquette County man remains lodged in jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash bond in connection with charges of stealing a vehicle, driving drunk, leaving the scene of an accident, and fleeing from police in Escanaba earlier this week.
Dylan Louis Spencer, 21, of 18593 County Road 533, McFarland, was arrested during the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 27, by Escanaba Public Safety officers.
While police were on patrol on the 200 block of North 15th Street, Spencer was seen operating a vehicle in a reckless manner at 3:19 a.m. While fishtailing down the street with no headlights, he struck a parked vehicle, said Det. Todd Chouinard who was at the scene.
When the officers attempted to pull the suspect over during a brief car chase, he took off running from the vehicle. During a brief foot chase, police followed his foot tracks in the snow and found him hiding in a vacant apartment. He was apprehended and lodged in the county jail on several charges.
Spencer was arraigned in Delta County District Court on the following five counts: unlawful driving away an auto, a five-year felony; driver fleeing and eluding police, third degree, a five-year felony; assaulting/resisting/obstructing police, a two-year felony; operating a motor vehicle with a high blood alcohol content, a misdemeanor; and failure to stop at the scene of a property damage accident, also a misdemeanor.
Spencer remains lodged in jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash bond. He waived his right to have a preliminary examination within 14 days. No date has been scheduled for the hearing in district court.
