Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting

I would like to express my gratitude to Richard Johnson of Manistique for his service to our country in the armed forces. Veterans of foreign wars are all to familiar with the brutal price of freedom.

With that in mind I must say that his letter was perplexing and bordering on naive.

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or being a sportsman. After events such as Ruby Ridge Idaho and Waco, Texas, one can obviously see the logic of the framers of our Constitution. The Second Amendment is a safeguard against the tyranny of a runaway government.

I am responsible gun owner as well as a law abiding citizen and I don’t need anyone telling me how to defend my home or defining my intent as a gun owner.

Mr. Johnson I suggest you get yourself better informed on Senator’s Feinstein’s latest attempt at disarming this nation. The 1994 weapons ban did not stop Columbine from happening. There is no evidence to prove that the most recent attempt at limiting the Second Amendment and restricting the rights of law abiding citizens will do anything that may have avoided the heartbreak of Sandy Hook.

More to my point, there are already laws on the books that are not enforced requiring background checks. If Mr. Obama is so concerned about our kids and their safety he need only take steps to overhaul our mental health system. Fixing a broken mental health system would assist the necessary authorities in keeping guns out of the hands of people who have no business having them.

Mr. Johnson also stated we live in a civilized society. This is a lofty thought but again naive as evidenced by the fact that 41 out of our 50 states have shall issue laws on their books.

Mr. Johnson like so many others in the media seem to feel threatened by an armed population. Congress need not pass this bill because it is nothing more than an unabashed gun grab proposed and supported by an elitist senator who has armed protection anytime she wants it.

There appears to be a common thread of stupidity mixed with ignorance that seems to feel that limiting magazine size to 10 rounds will make us more safe. Naturally we should also outlaw double ott buckshot because of its spread pattern. While we are at it let’s ban cars, we all know how they can be as a weapon in the wrong hands.

Enough already what the hell happened to common sense?
