Warm response to CAA?fundraiser

This week’s bouquets go to:

From Bill Dubord and Cathy Pearson of the Community Action Agency in Escanaba:

“Over the years we’ve been part of scores of Big Brat Sales and Walks for Warmth. Still, what we witnessed last week was particularly astonishing and heartwarming.

Our Big Brat Sale took place Feb. 8 in Delta County. Response from brat lovers, volunteers, sponsors and CAA workers warmed us like no other. The response was fantastic – a record for sales.

“The support from our caring, giving communities for a number of causes is nothing new. Even in that context, the support we received for this sale was simply breathtaking.

There are no words that can display our gratitude.

“Please rest assured we will put your support to excellent use. Many residents in our communities must go cold simply because they don’t have the resources they need to heat their homes. Funding from the CAA is a last-gasp effort to provide support after all other avenues have been exhausted.

“The Big Brat Sale is just a small part of our effort. It’s a unique way to get the word out about the need. But the event that really counts is Walk for Warmth, scheduled for Feb. 23 in Menominee, Escanaba and Manistique. That’s the one that usually drums up thousands of dollars of support. Once again we will go, with hat in hand, reminding residents the need is great – almost as great as their generosity.

“Thanks again to all. Your care and support cannot be applauded enough.”

From the Escanaba Upper Elementary PTO:

“A huge thank you to the students, families and staff of the Upper Elementary for making our recent Italian Night Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser another big success. Your support was overwhelming and so very much appreciated.”
