Mary Lucille Lewis
MORAN – Mary Lucille Lewis, 89 of Moran, passed away Feb. 10, 2013, following a lengthy illness. Mary was born on June 13, 1923, in Hersey, Mich. to George and Viola (Winchell) Rauch.
She was married to Dean Lewis for 17 years, he preceded her in death in 1989.
She worked at JFB Manufacturing in St. Ignace until her retirement. After retirement Mary and her husband spent several winters in Florida. She loved camping, her flower gardens and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mary’s children and grandchildren were all recipients of her famous quilts which she made until she was no longer able to make them. She also sent her quilts to disaster areas in the U.S. to help comfort those in need.
Mary is survived by sons, Clifford and Anna Boggs, Dale Boggs, Doug Boggs, all of Escanaba, Roger and Barbara Boggs, Arlington, Texas, and Charlie Boggs of Moran; daughters, Elizabeth and LeRoy Smith of St. Ignace, Lorraine and Buddy Taylor of Hickory Valley, Tenn., Shirley Shultz of Merrit Island, Fla., and Darlene and Pete Heckman of Moran; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean Lewis; her parents, George and Viola Rauch; a son, Ronald Boggs, Sr.; and a sister, Thora Jackson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Dodson Funeral Home, St. Ignace. Her burial will take place in the spring at the Wequeac Native American Cemetery, St. Ignace Township, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
