Hot start powers Munising by Rockets’ girls
RAPID RIVER – The Rapid River girls fell behind early and couldn’t catch dig their way out of a first quarter hole as Munising came away wtih a 34-24 victory in the final home game of the season for the Rockets.
Munising led 17-6 after the first quarter in the Central U.P. Conference game.
“We held them to single digits every quarter, so our overall team defense was very good,” said Munising coach Matt Mattson. “In the first quarter they only scored six points and they were all at the free throw line. We made some shots and played really good defense.”
Rikki Stropich led the Rockets with a nine-point effort. She also added six rebounds as Rapid River fell to 0-19.
Munising, which won the JV game 36-32 was led by Jennie Hach’s 10 points. Teammate Sheena Sowa added nine points and nine rebounds.
