Betty I. Roman

GLADSTONE – Betty I. Roman, 83, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully, following a brief illness Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013, at the Marquette General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born March 27, 1929, in Escanaba the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Johnson) Mattson. Betty was united in marriage to William Roman on May 11, 1944, in Escanaba.

Betty was an active member of the New Horizon’s Ministry Church in Gladstone. She enjoyed going to church, dining out and playing cards. Her family was very important to her and she treasured time spent with them. Her children’s dogs were considered her family also. Betty always looked forward to car rides in the country and stopping for ice cream.

Survivors include, five sons, William (Pam) Roman of Porterfield, Wis., Richard Roman of Brampton, Tom (Kim) Roman of Brampton, John (Shirley) Roman of Brampton, Steve Roman of Menominee; two daughters, Karen (Larry) Branstrom of Gladstone and Nancy (Jim Koster) Deneau of Brampton; brother, John Mattson of Irons, Mich.; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, her husband, William on Dec. 13, 1991; son, Michael in 1948; daughter-in-law, Priscilla Roman; and brothers, Walter and Robert; preceded Betty in death.

Betty’s family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty I. Roman will follow at 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Scarcelli of the New Horizon’s Ministry officiating. Luncheon will follow at the New Horizon’s Ministry Church.

Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband William at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
