Beatrice E. Mayville

ESCANABA – Beatrice E. Mayville, 93, 812 S. 19th St., Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1920, in Escanaba, Mich., daughter of Fred and Rose (DeMars) DeGrand. Beatrice attended Ford River School.

Beatrice DeGrand married Henry “Hank” Mayville on June 3, 1941, at St. Anne’s Church. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1998.

She was a cook at Holy Name High School for the last two years the high school was in existence.

She later worked at Christian Park Health Care Center for 24 years as a cook, retiring in 1996.

She loved baking, knitting, crocheting and cooking.

Beatrice was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member of St. Anne’s Church and the funeral luncheon group.

Among her survivors include her daughter, Carol (William) Porath of Escanaba; two sons, Ron (Susan) Mayville of Escanaba and Mark (Pauline) Mayville of Escanaba; eight grandchildren, Carol (Joe) Dollhopf, Debby (Tony) Mueller, Roni (Dave) Osier, John (Jenny) Mayville, Andrew Mayville, Pam (Kevin) King, Jill (Erick) Beauchamp, and Julie (Matt) Vandeville; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two grandsons, Eric and Eathen Eckberg; sisters, Rosella Nordquist, Lucille DeGrand, Phyllis Bowden; and three brothers, Mark, Lionel “Bid” and Roy DeGrand.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Visitation will also take place from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at St. Anne’s Church prior to Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Mayville family with arrangements.
