Crash case moves forward
MENOMINEE – A 2011 motorcycle accident involving a felony charge against a Gladstone man, was bound over from Menominee County District Court to circuit court on Wednesday.
Steven Dennis Parrett, 43, of Gladstone, will either make a plea or be tried in circuit court on one count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious impairment to his passenger.
Parrett was arrested on July 25, 2011, after he crashed his motorcycle on County Road 577 in Menominee Township at 12:27 in the morning, according to Michigan State Police who investigated the accident.
Parrett’s sister, Tracie Lee Peterson, 46, of Menominee, was a passenger on the motorcycle and was later found in a ditch. She was seriously injured in the crash and was airlifted to a hospital in Green Bay.
Parrett was arrested after the accident and released from jail the following day.
During a preliminary examination in district court on Wednesday, the case was forwarded to the higher court. Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious impairment of a body function, carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Parrett is scheduled for his arraignment in circuit court on Friday. A date will later be set for a plea or a trial.
