Police identify crash victim
GLADSTONE – Police have released the name of a man killed in an accident involving a semi truck and multiple vehicles in Gladstone Wednesday night.
According to Gladstone Public Safety, Thomas Swift, 73, of Escanaba, was killed in the accident, which occurred at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 41 and M-35 and South Hill Road at approximately 8:21 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a semi truck. Swift was pronounced dead at the scene.
Swift’s wife, Barbara Swift, also 73, was a passenger in the vehicle and was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital, and later, to Marquette General Hospital where she was listed in serious condition Thursday afternoon. No further information on her condition was available this morning.
The driver of the semi truck was identified as Harley Durocher, 24, of Gwinn. He was not injured in the accident.
Police have identified Joyce Scheriff, 72, of Gladstone, as the driver of a third vehicle involved. She was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital where she was listed in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.
Gladstone Public Safety Director Paul Geyer said this morning the accident is still under investigation. No further details are being released at this time pending review of the circumstances by the prosecutor’s office.
