Lions to hold swing dance: GHS Jazz Band to provide music

GLADSTONE – The Gladstone Lions, in partnership with the Gladstone High School Jazz Ensemble, will hold their annual dance at the Bluff Country Club on Friday, April 12.

With the “Swing Dance” in its 14th year, the Gladstone High School Jazz Ensemble has become well-known throughout the community for their ability to provide quality dance band music.

The band will perform tunes from the Big Band Era that are perfect for ballroom and swing dancing. Whether dancing or just listening, their performance will provide those in attendance with a great evening of entertaining music.

This year, the Jimmy Almen Trio will also be performing. This group from Marquette is perfect for listening, dining, and dancing. Their style has been described as “cool Vegas lounge.”

While playing predominately jazz standards, the trio also plays more current ballads and light rock music. And front man, Jimmy Almen, has written a number of original tunes that you’ll hear throughout the night.

The group consists of vocals, keyboards, bass, and drums. Participants can expect to hear music made popular by Sinatra, Bennett and other famous “crooners.”

Proceeds from this benefit dance will help the Gladstone Lions with their many community projects and the Gladstone Band Program as well.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Gladstone Baybank. Music will begin at 8 p.m.
