Woman killed in police shooting identified
HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP – Michigan State Police have identified the woman who died following a shooting involving a State Police trooper in Humboldt Township Thursday night as Lori Lee Lee, 50, of County Road FS, Champion Township.
Around 6:05 p.m. the trooper and a Marquette County sheriff’s deputy were dispatched to the residence in response to a 9-1-1 call from Lee reporting a domestic dispute. When officers arrived, Lee confronted them outside the home with a rifle. Lee then pointed the rifle at the officers. When she refused to follow commands to put the firearm down, the trooper fired on Lee.
An autopsy conducted Friday morning by the Marquette County medical examiner at Marquette General Hospital, revealed that Lee suffered a single fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Detectives from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post are continuing to investigate the incident with assistance from Michigan State Police Marquette Post and Grayling Forensic Science Labs.
The 17-year veteran Michigan State Police trooper and 5-year veteran Marquette County Sheriff’s deputy involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation.
