Carol Jean Gearhart
CARNEY – Carol Jean Gearhart, 71 of Carney, Mich., passed away on April 11, 2013, at St Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis., surrounded by her loving family. The former Carol Skrobiak was born on Feb. 1, 1942, in Escanaba, Mich., to the late Mike and Veronica (Holochwost) Skrobiak. Carol grew up in Bark River, Mich., and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1959. On Aug. 15, 1980, Carol married Lyle Gearhart in Menominee, Mich. She worked at Gilbert and Bennett until she retired in 1998. Carol loved to spend time with her 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She spent her summers golfing, camping and sitting around the campfire. Her winters she crocheted, read and loved to play games on Facebook with her many friends. She enjoyed her monthly trips to the casino to have lunch with her relatives.
Survivors include her loving husband, Lyle of Carney, Mich.; six children, Jolene (Mark) Strauss of Hermansville, Mich., Brian (Geraldine) Murray of Nadeau, Mich., Christine (Nubs Strom) Hansen of Franksville, Wis., Cathalene (John Boyd) Lenca of Hermansville, Mich., Jacquelene Sjoholm of Richmond, Ky. and Pauline (Rick) Leaveck of Stephenson, Mich.; sister, Linda (David) Walker of Wallace, Mich.; two brothers, Joseph (Kathy) Skrobiak of Daggett, Mich., and Leonard (Donna) Skrobiak of Bark River, Mich.; grandchildren, Sarah Filion, Jeffrey Strauss, Roxanne Murray, Heather Murray, Samantha Murray, Jennifer Swanson, Kyle Hansen, Nicole Lenca, Justin Lenca, Lisa Belongia, Andrew Dubiel, Jared Sjoholm, Amanda Leaveck, Travis and Tyler Leaveck; great-grandchildren, Zack Hansen, Ruth Hansen, Shawn Hansen, Aubrie Hansen, Christian Belongia, Tracy Belongia, Ethan Dubiel, Landon Murray and Cameron Murray.
Carol was preceded in death by two grandchildren, David Joseph Belongia Jr. and Ryan William Strauss.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, after 2 p.m. CST with memorial service at 5 p.m. CST. Deacon Mike LeBeau officiating.
