Alvin Charles Thill
GARDEN – Alvin Charles Thill, 71, of 4179 II Road, Garden, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., from complications due to an accident.
Alvin was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Fayette the son of Martin and Isabel Thill. He was raised on the family farm in Fayette/Garden and attended the Mud Lake Elementary School. Alvin was a 1958 graduate of Cooks High School.
Following graduation, he continued to work on the family farm prior to serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served in the Army as a M.P. with the “Big Red One” where he was stationed in Vietnam from 1964-1966. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Fayette where he continued working the family farm raising Beef Cattle. He also worked for Payne and Dolan as a Foreman for 30 years retiring in 1996. Following his retirement, he continued to raise cattle on the farm.
Alvin was a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Garden, Local No. 324 Operating Engineers and the Garden American Legion Post No. 545. Alvin loved traveling, working in his garden, going to the casino and Salmon fishing. His rose garden was very important to him and many people would stop to admire his roses. He also enjoyed 4-wheeling and helping neighbors and friends when needed.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jeanne-Marie Pryal, who he was united in marriage to on Feb. 4, 1984, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba.
Stepson, Reid Savard of Kalamazoo, Mich.; brother, John (Linda) Thill of Garden Corners; sister, Loretta Hoy of Trenary; Special friends, Brack Fayette Gillespie and Allen Dalgord, both of Fayette and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Sr. Janet Thill O.L.V.N. and his brother, Erwin Thill, preceded Alvin in death.
Alvin’s family will receive friends on Saturday April 20, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. John Catholic Church in Garden. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Antony Lukka officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. John Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Old Hinks Cemetery in Garden.
