Brother Nels Deloria, M.I.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Brother Nels Deloria, M.I. was born on Nov. 30, 1941, in Nahma and died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at St. Camillus Health Center in Wauwatosa, Wis.

Preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Deloria; and his father, Gerard “Duke” Deloria.

He is survived by a brother, Ron; and two sisters, Charlotte Scheuren and Patty Des Jardian.

He was a nurse by profession for a number of years before joining the Ministers of the Sick in Milwaukee. He made his first profession of vows on Aug. 29, 1976, and his final profession on Sept. 28, 1980. He worked for a short time at what was Lakeview Hospital (now Wisconsin Heart Hospital) and later at St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville, Mass.

He spent most of his religious life as a nurse on St. Camillus Campus and was also involved in caring for individuals with AIDS. He served a number of years as a member on the various St. Camillus Boards as well as Director of Mission Awareness at St. Camillus Campus. He served over the years as assistant vocation director and formation director. For a number of terms, he was a member of the Provincial Council for the Order of St. Camillus.

He was well-liked and appreciated by all who knew him. His smile was contagious as a jovial and friendly religious Brother. He will be missed at St. Camillus Campus and in Milwaukee. We believe that God will welcome him home with the words “Come blessed of my Father for I was sick and you visited me.”

Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15, in the Camillian Room at San Camillo located at 10200 W. Bluemound Road.

Burial followed at the religious community’s cemetery in Durward’s Glen, Wis.
