Ellen M. Linjala
ROCK – Ellen M. Linjala, 91, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living (now Artisan). She was born on May 21, 1921, in Rock, to John and Mary (Masalin) Heino.
On Nov. 21, 1942, she married Elmer Linjala and lived in Negaunee for five years. In 1947, they moved back to Rock to take over the family dairy farm. At the age of 46 she decided to go to college, graduating from Northern Michigan University in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree. After graduation she worked for Social Services for the State of Michigan in Escanaba until retirement in 1982. She moved to Green Bay, Wis., in 1999 to take care of her husband who had Alzheimers/dementia.
Ellen enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior with her husband which they did every year. She enjoyed deer hunting and was a very good shot. They enjoyed snowmobiling, cross country skiing, camping, traveling and community activities. She also enjoyed her garden and her sewing club. She is also remembered as a dedicated 4-H leader. She especially enjoyed her 90th birthday with her family attending.
She is survived by her three children, Diane Baylor of Florida, Edward (Shari) Linjala of Missoula, Mont. and Nancy Linjala (Dale Brandt) of Green Bay Wis. She is also survived by three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2000; and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Rock, where she and her husband enjoyed a wonderful life.
