Mary V. Sheffer
ESCANABA – Mary V. Sheffer, 83, 817 N. 20th St., Escanaba, passed away early Friday morning, April 19, 2013, at Christian Park Health Care Center.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1929, in Escanaba, daughter of Bennett and Yvonne (Potvin) McCauley. Mary graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1947.
On Aug. 18, 1948, the former Mary McCauley married Frank “Bud” Sheffer at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba. He preceded her in death.
Mary was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church for 56 years. She was actively involved in the Ladies Guild, RCIA, St. Marie Goretti Circle, and was a sacristan for many years.
She was involved with Compassionate Friends Support Group. Mary enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, playing cards, calligraphy, listening to music, watching animal planet and volunteering.
Mary was employed for American Greeting Card Company for a few years.
Among survivors include her three daughters, Bonnie Cowell, Debra (Jim) Jankowski, and Kim Sheffer, all of Escanaba; son-in-law, Timothy Schomin of Texas; seven grandchildren, Brianne Jankowski, Sarah (Nick) Singer, Victoria Jankowski, Meghan (Nick) Mullin, Andrew (Katie) Schomin, Bethany Schomin and David Schomin; three great-grandchildren, Kelly and Andrew “Drew” Schomin and Connor Mullin; three sisters, Rita Dubord of Escanaba, Flossie Benard of Powers, Lois (Jerry) Ravet of Green Bay; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Diane Schomin.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish prayers will conclude the visitation at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian
Burial will follow on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier and Rev. Emmett Norden concelebrating.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Sheffer family with arrangements.
