Lennard J. Stenberg
BARK RIVER – Lennard J. Stenberg, 89, 4452 D Road, Bark River, passed away on Monday morning, April 8, 2013, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1924, in Escanaba, son of Carl and Hilda (Larson) Stenberg. Lennard attended the Sunnyside School and lived in the Bark River area most of his life.
On Oct. 23, 1943, Lennard married the former Gladys Porath in Bark River.
Lennard loved his work as an engineer for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1985 after 35 years. He enjoyed his job because of his love travel. In retirement he and Gladys did quite a bit of camping and traveling in their motorhome.
Among survivors include his wife, Gladys of Bark River; children, Carl (Therese), Franklin (Janice) and Glenn (Susan), all of Bark River, David (Marcy) of Yuma, Ariz. and Sharilyn (Gerald) Glasure of Bark River; 14 grandchildren, Wayne, Janet, Matthew, Mark, Todd, Lennard, Scott, Phillip, Melvin, Wendy, Shelli, Tammy, Jeff, and Quentin, plus 22 great-grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kevin Stenberg; two sisters, Ruth Dahl and Hildur Olson; and brother, Hjalmer “Elmer” Stenberg.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Bark River. A service will follow at 7 p.m. with Carl Carley officiating.
The Stenberg family would like to offer a heartfelt, sincere thank you to the staff at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers for their wonderful care and compassion that was given to Lennard during the six and a half years that he resided there. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Stenberg family with arrangements.
