Five area residents complete electrical line training

MARQUETTE – Five area residents are members of the 10th graduating class of the Electrical Line Technician (ELT) program at the Midwest Skills Development Center.

They are among the 32 students who received Electrical Line Technician diploma’s after completing a one-year training program preparing students to install, maintain and operate electrical systems to supply electric energy to residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Area graduates are Eric Blau, Dillon Headington, Trevor Palmer and Eric Williams, all of Rapid River; and Bryant Dault of Escanaba.

The ELT program is a joint effort between Northern Michigan University (NMU), the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) and the Midwest Skills Development Center (MSDC).

The ELT program has trained 303 students to date, who have an 80 percent job placement rate after graduation. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the job outlook for ELT’s is expected to rise.
