Do you know a volunteer?

Dedicated volunteers are special people and there are many in Delta County that have made a lasting mark on the community. They devote a significant part of their lives to making the area a better place to live for everyone. They are the first to take up the cause when something needs to be done. They give of themselves and ask for nothing in return.

Do you know one of these volunteers? Are they deserving of recognition for devoting a significant amount of time and effort to a good cause? If you know someone like this, the Daily Press wants to hear from you.

The Daily Press and NewPage sponsor a Volunteer of the Month program. Now in its third year, the program honors local volunteers over the course of the year. The Volunteer of the Month is featured in a front page story detailing their life, volunteer efforts, and how they have made a difference in the community. Each October, a Volunteer of the Year is picked from among the Volunteer of the Month selections. The Volunteer of the Year is honored at the annual Delta County Chamber of Commerce Dinner.

Some well-deserving residents have been honored as Volunteer of the Year during the first two years of the program. Ken Buchholtz was our first Volunteer of the Year in recognition for his work with outdoor groups and area youth. In 2012, Paddy Fitch was recognized for her lifetime of volunteerism with agencies, groups and causes to numerous to mention.
