Dorothy C. Zeno
ESCANABA – Dorothy C. Zeno, 84, of 6855 Delta L.92 Drive, Escanaba, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at her home in Escanaba. She was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Mercer, Wis., and was the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Helstrom) Popko. The former Dorothy Popko married James Anderson on July 28, 1949, in Mercer, Wis., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1986. She later married Clarence Zeno on Sept. 16, 1996, and he survives.
Dorothy was employed at Neisner’s Dime Store, later at Gartner’s Clothing Store until she purchased the Hob Nob Convenience Store, operating the store until her retirement in 1986. Dorothy was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church serving on the alter guild and many committees at church. She also was a member of the OSF St. Francis Auxiliary working in the gift shop at the hospital. Dorothy also enjoyed knitting, reading, flower gardening, and spending time with her family and especially with her grandchildren.
Dorothy C. Zeno is survived by: son, Bruce (June) Anderson of Gladstone; daughter, Susan (Ed) McCarthy of Escanaba; stepson, Ward (Jill) Zeno of Bark River; stepdaughter, Loreene (Dave) Koskey of Marquette; grandchildren, Shawn Anderson, Cheryl Anderson, Adam Marenger, Jesse (Mykeda) Marenger, and Tara Marenger; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hailey and Chloe; step-grandchildren, Sarah (Brad) Nault, Jodi (Jesse) Greenfield, Ward (Tiffany) Zeno and Jessica (Brad) Mason; nine step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jean Helman of Gladstone, Barbara Hill of West Allis, Wis., Kay (Leighton) Hill of Presque Isle, Wis., and Mae Plutchak of West Branch, Mich.; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Marge Feece, and brother, Robert Popko.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy C. Zeno will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Erik Heskin officiating.
A luncheon will be served following the funeral service in the Bethany Lutheran Church fellowship area. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery.
