GHS Spanish students at NMU Field Day: Win first in song competition
GLADSTONE – Gladstone High School Spanish II, III, and IV students recently participated in the 22nd Annual Spanish Field Day at Northern Michigan University. The students visited Espaolandia, a Spanish-speaking country created by the NMU Spanish students within the NMU University Center. While at Northern, they participated in the Spanish song and the skit competitions.
Approximately 450 students from throughout the Upper Peninsula attended. The students won a first place in the song competition and a third place in the skit competition.
The skit, entitled “El tartamudo” or “The Stutterer,” was judged according to creativity, presentation, language proficiency, staging, time limit, pronunciation, and projection.
The song, entitled “Tu amor vino a m” or “Your Love Came to Me” was judged on musical aesthetics, stage presence, and pronunciation.
The award-winning actors were GHS sophomores, Cata “Katelyn” Belonga Corbett, Alicia “Elisabeth” Hedman Donovan, Mario “Justin” Jurek Hofbauer, Maya “Megan” Jursch Guenette, and Xiomara “Ashlee” Trotter Roberts.
The award-winning singer was Asuncin “Anissa” Godfrey Whitfield.
The students’ Spanish teacher is Michlle Kenville Miller.
