Geraldine M. Reimer

BEACH PARK, Ill. – Geraldine M. Reimer, 89, formerly of Osier, Mich., and currently residing with her daughter and son-in-law in Beach Park, Ill., passed away at home in Beach Park early the morning of Jan. 19, 2013.

Geraldine was born May 7, 1923, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba to the late Albert and Florence (Chenail) Juneau. She was raised in Osier and graduated from Rock High School in 1943.

In 1945 she married Warren Reimer and from their union a daughter, Cheryl, was born. Geraldine lived most of her life in Osier next door to the home where she was raised. They lived in the Ishpeming area from 1952 until 1958 before returning to Osier to be closer to her aging parents. She moved to Beach Park in 2009, where she resided until her final journey Home.

She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Trenary; a charter member of the Rock American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 559 for over 58 years; and until moving to Illinois was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society of Trenary. Most recently she enjoyed WII bowling, crocheting, occasional trips to the casino and spending time with her family and friends. Until her health declined she enjoyed bingo, word search puzzles, cooking, dancing and playing cards (especially on Wednesdays with the ladies at the Rock Senior Center.)

She had a great sense of humor, was always there to give others encouragement, had the ability to strike up a conversation with strangers resulting in many new friendships and she was a “Grandma” figure to many. Her home was always open to her family and many friends, making all feel special and welcome. She was like the Energizer Bunny, each time she was faced with a health issue and you didn’t think she would pull through she came bouncing back until her battery finally wore out the morning of Jan. 19, 2013. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Larry) Armstrong of Beach Park, Ill.; granddaughter, Tina Carlson of Spring Grove, Ill.; great-granddaughter, Michelle Carlson of Spring Grove, Ill.; nephew, Leslie (Celia) Viitala of Gwinn; great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends both in the U.P. and in Illinois.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; great-grandsons, Mitchell Carlson and Josh Summers; and sister, Evelyn (Viitala) Larson.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Auxiliary rites, conducted by the Rock American Legion Auxiliary, will follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Geraldine M. Reimer will follow auxiliary rites at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Geraldine will be laid to rest in the Rock Cemetery following funeral services. Luncheon will follow committal rites at the Rock Senior Center.

The Skradski Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Reimer family with arrangements.
