Lillian A. Day

BRAMPTON – Lillian A. Day, 60, of 5455 27.5 Road, Brampton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 31, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Escanaba.

Lillian was born Feb. 27, 1953, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Frank and Angelina (Sansone) Baccki Sr. Lillian was raised in East Haven, Conn., and attended St. Mary’s High School. Following graduation, she went on to study Spanish Education at Southern Connecticut State University and Spain where she earned her bachelors degree. While working as a waitress at Race Brook Country Club, she made life-long friendships, one in particular Mary Lee Griffin. Lillian then moved to Skandia, Mich., to find work near her brother, Frank. It is here where she met her husband, Rodger. Lillian accepted a position at North Star Wood Products in Gwinn after interviewing with Rodger. Shortly after, realizing they were soul mates, they were married and relocated to Brampton, Mich., where the couple opened the Diamond Shaft Manufacturing Company.

They worked together as co-owners, until the unfortunate tragic loss of her beloved husband, Rodger. Upon meeting Rodger, Lillian graciously took on the role of a mother to six children. Along side of Rodger, they raised these six children with open arms, comfort, and love. Through Lillian’s good heart, kindness to all and comical sense of humor, she made life brighter and stronger.

Lillian’s hobbies and interests included crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, watching comedies and westerns. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and dog (Zachary) and playing the odds.

Survivors include: children, Justin “J.D.” (Tina) Day of Gladstone, Angelique “Angel” (Ben) Holochwost of Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., Caresse (John) Kahl of Escanaba, Heidi-Ellen (Lauren) Schwark of Escanaba, Rodger (Sherry) Day Jr. of Gladstone and Kendall (Sara) Day of Muskegon, Mich.; brother, Frank (Barbara) Baccki Jr. of Taylor, Mich.; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, her husband Rodger preceded Lillian in death on Aug. 24, 2011.

Lillian’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Lillian A. Day will follow at 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. William Rafuse of the Rapid River Congregational Church officiating.

Burial will follow at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Luncheon will follow at the Schwark residence in Escanaba. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Day family.
