Residents, get ready to rummage
ESCANABA – Escanaba residents will have an opportunity to clean out their closets and find new treasures during the city-wide rummage sale this weekend.
The rummage sale program is designed to provide a venue for residents to recycle household items like furniture, electronics, and other working household goods. Besides keeping these items out of landfills, residents can profit off the sale of their unwanted items.
Rummage sales around the city will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A list of participating addresses is available on the city’s website at www.escanaba.org.
“Usually there’s quite a few people that get involved, and they tend to target college students,” said Kim Peterson, city executive secretary, noting students are always in need of furniture for dorm rooms and apartments.
Peterson noted it is likely more residents will participate by holding rummage sales than are listed.
While the majority of residences participating in the rummage sale are selling both days, the list issued by the city notes addresses that will only be selling on one of the two rummage sale days. Also noted are addresses that will not be selling for the entire period between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
For those that miss out on the rummage sales Friday and Saturday there is a second chance to score a great find. On Sunday, the city will hold its Trash to Treasure program.
Residents can place functioning electronics and other items on the boulevard adjacent to their properties.
Between 8 a.m. and noon, people searching for treasures will be able to take these items at no cost. A rain date for the event has been set for June 16.
