Remember When?

Gene Watson Gallery

Doug Mathieson, left, who, along with his brother, George, was very active in promoting the World Championship Logrolling contests in Gladstone in the 1940s and ’50s, helps to guide the log as the burling Girards go through their acts in 1941. With the dad, Billy Girard Sr., at left on the log, Bill Jr. is passing behind his brother, Lowell, while their brothers, Adolph and Eddie, help to steady the log at the near end. The Girard family was noted throughout the Midwest for performance and trick and fancy logrolling.
