Woman faces sentencing in Admiral armed robbery
ESCANABA – An Escanaba woman will be sentenced in August in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a local gas station earlier this year.
Courtney Marie Gartland, 21, reached a plea agreement in Delta County Circuit Court on Friday. She pleaded guilty to one count of lying to a peace officer investigating a larceny, a two-year high-court misdemeanor.
In exchange for the guilty plea, the prosecution agreed to dismiss a four-year felony against Gartland for lying to a peace officer investigating a serious felony.
Gartland is a co-defendant in a robbery at the Admiral gas station at 720 N. Lincoln Road. Marc Allen Grove, 19, of Escanaba, was arrested for allegedly robbing the gas station attendant at knifepoint during the Jan. 20 incident.
On May 31, Grove pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to rob while unarmed, a 15-year felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced in circuit court on July 15.
Grove was originally charged with armed robbery, a life felony, and charged with controlled substance – possession of the analogue Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, a two-year felony.
During Gartland’s court hearing on Friday, she also pleaded guilty to a second unrelated charge of maintaining a drug house. The high-court misdemeanor carries a maximum sentencing of two years incarceration. The charge stems from a Dec, 13, 2012 incident in Wells Township on Dec. 13, 2012.
Gartland will be sentenced on the two high-court misdemeanors on Aug. 13 in circuit court.
