Robert Harold ‘Bob’ Nelson
BARK RIVER – Robert Harold “Bob” Nelson, 64, of 2155 H Road, Bark River, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 27, 1948, in Escanaba, son of Harry R. and Kathryn J. (McCarthy) Nelson. Robert graduated from Escanaba High School in 1967 and attended Oshkosh Technical Institute for automotive technology.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.
Robert worked for five years at Tilbert’s Brake and Alignment Shop, Inc. and later owned and operated HR Nelson and Sons Logging for 39 years.
He was baptized Catholic.
Robert was one of the founders of the Ford River Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Escanaba Jaycees, EAA Oshkosh, and Elks Lodge 354.
Robert had a private pilots license. He enjoyed classic cars, woodworking, photography, traveling, and electric gadgets.
Among survivors include his father, Harry Nelson of Powers; siblings, Mary (Josh) Busick of Ford River, Steve (Mary) Nelson of Bark River, and Lauren (Michael) Crall of Cedar Falls, Iowa; six nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veterans Council will have military rites at 4 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Nelson family with arrangements.
