Dorothy ‘Dot’ Buckmaster

GLADSTONE – Dorothy “Dot” Buckmaster, 97, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Monday evening, June 24, 2013, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba.

Dot was born June 14, 1916, in Gladstone, the daughter of Torval and Augusta (Newlin) Kallerson. She was raised in Gladstone and was a 1934 graduate of the Gladstone Senior High School. Following graduation, Dot moved to Iron Mountain where she attended and graduated from cosmetology school.

On Nov. 23, 1939, Dot was united in marriage to Donald C. Buckmaster and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone.

Dot owned and operated her own beauty salon, fondly named the “Rialto Beauty Shop,” in the Rialto Center in Gladstone, for many years. Dot’s social manner allowed her to enjoy spending quality time with family and develop lasting friendships throughout her life. She was a devoted member of the United Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone and church choir member for over 75 years. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and for many years, along with her husband, Don, volunteering during the holiday season as Santa and Mrs. Claus. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include son, Gary (Kristin) Buckmaster of Gladstone; daughter, Sheila (Max) Wagner of Silver Lakes, Calif.; son-in-law, Charley Harris of Sand Point, Idaho; brother-in-law, Clifford Buckmaster of Petoskey, Mich.; grandchildren, Steve (Deb), Kristofer (Jamie), Jesse (Nikki), and James “Buck”; great-grandchildren, Ava, Konner, Sophia, Maggie, Henry and Charley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Torval and Augusta; her loving husband Donald on Sept. 25, 2007; daughter, Colleen Harris in 2010; and brother, Melvin Kallerson.

Dot’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 3, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the United Evangelical Covenant Church, 305 S. 9th St., Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Dot Buckmaster will follow visitation at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the United Evangelical Covenant Church with Pastor Nathan Langager officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Committal prayer will be conducted following luncheon at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

In lieu of flowers, Dot’s family respectfully requests that contributions be directed to the United Evangelical Covenant Church. Envelopes will be available throughout visitation and at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
