Phyllis Jean Boucher

ESCANABA – Phyllis Jean Boucher, 83, of 1416 Stephenson Ave., Escanaba, passed away Monday afternoon, July 1, 2013, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba following a brief illness.

Phyllis was born July 22, 1929, in Gladstone, the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Swanson) Darion. She was raised in Gladstone where she was a 1947 graduate of Gladstone High School.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Donald R. Boucher on Dec. 29, 1948, at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba. They resided in Iowa while Don attended Iowa State College. They returned to Escanaba in 1957 where they raised their six children.

Phyllis was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the V.F.W. and AMVETS Auxiliaries. She was an avid collector, collecting antiques, dishes, silverware, stamps and coins. She also enjoyed “refunding,” refinishing old furniture and going to the casino.

Survivors include her sons, Daniel Boucher of Wells, Timothy (Carole) Boucher of Escanaba, Douglas (Kris) Boucher of Escanaba; daughters, Lynn Spalla of Gladstone, Debra (David) Wiltzius of Coleman, Wis., Rebecca (Scott) Thomas of Mosinee, Wis.; brother, Allan “Bud” Darion of Gladstone; 10 grandchildren, Daniel (Yvonne) Boucher, Dana (Michael) Griffith, Rick Boucher, Joseph Thomas, Don Boucher, William “Bill” Boucher, Kelly Thomas, Samuel (Sarah) Wiltzius, Kaleigh Boucher, and Danielle Boucher; seven great-grandchildren, twins, Emma and Sydney, Hailey, Zachary, Noah, Will and Macie; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1999; son, Donald James in 1958; son-in-law, Gregory Spalla in 1993; sister, Nancy Darion in 2006; sister, Eleanor Darion in 1993; and brother, Glenn in 1992.

Phyllis’s family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, from 2 to 4:15 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall. Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Escanaba.
