A total of 136 youngsters took part in the story hour at the Gladstone Public Library on June 12 that kicked-off the library’s summer reading program. The summer reading program, “Dig into Reading!” is open to children 2-18 years of age. Pictured enjoying stories in the library’s children’s room are: from left front, Sara, Thomas, Ann; back row, Kendall with Altrusa volunteers, Frances Michaels and Sharyn Deuel. Reading programs are offered to encourage children to read for enjoyment, to build reading skills throughout the summer and to promote early literacy to become life long readers. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Gladstone Public Library, Altrusa, individuals and many area businesses. The reading program ends on Aug. 7.
