Downtown soon in a ‘Daze’

ESCANABA – Feel like doing some bargain shopping?

The annual Escanaba Sidewalk Daze event takes place this Friday in downtown Escanaba.

According to Sue Parker, chairperson for the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority, sidewalk sales for area businesses along Ludington Street will take place this Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Many businesses and vendors are expected to participate by offering discounts and sales to customers.

To coordinate with the sidewalk sales, Ludington Street will be blocked off from the 1300 block to the 900 block.

“This has been a downtown tradition for as long as I can remember,” said Parker, of the event. “We’re just inviting people to come downtown and enjoy the day downtown and see what we have to offer.”

Discounts will continue Saturday with extended sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but streets will not be closed during that time.

“It’s a good day for all the merchants downtown,” said Parker, adding the event is great for the area, especially coming off the Esky150 sesquicentennial events, which had a “phenomenal” impact on local businesses.
