Rudolph J. ‘Rudy’ Marcella

CORNELL – Rudolph J. “Rudy” Marcella, 84, lifelong resident of Cornell, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his brother’s home, in Cornell.

Rudy was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Gladstone, the son of John and Katherine (Burcar) Marcella Sr. He was raised in Gladstone before moving to Cornell in 1937. On July 14, 1953, Rudy enlisted in the United States Army, where he served until his honorable discharge in May of 1955. Following his discharge, Rudy returned to Cornell where he has remained for his entire life.

In addition to working on his family farm, Rudy was employed at Mead Paper Corporation, working until his retirement in 1994. Rudy was a member of the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. He enjoyed tending to his garden, taking car rides throughout the Upper Peninsula and spending time with family.

Survivors include his brothers, Walter J. Marcella of Cornell and Robert (Terry) Marcella of Kenosha, Wis.; sister, Deloris Owens of Roscoe, Ill. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, John and Katherine; Rudy was preceded in death by his brother, John L. Marcella; sister, Josephine Nelson; brother-in-law, Donald Owens; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann, Rita, and Kathy Marcella.

Rudy’s family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites, conducted by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71, will follow visiting hours on Monday, at 6 p.m., at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Rudolph J. “Rudy” Marcella will follow on Tuesday, at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock, with Rev. Fr. John Longbucco officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Holy Family Church Parish Hall. Rudy will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery.
