Elaine M. Denofre
ISHPEMING – Elaine M. Denofre, 87, of 111 Bluff St., Ishpeming, died at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where she had been a patient for three months.
Elaine was born Aug. 8, 1925, in Escanaba to Alex and Mary (McDonald) Bruyere and graduated from Escanaba High School, Class of 1943.
She moved to the Negaunee area in 1945 and was employed as a waitress at the Northwoods Supper Club for a number of years, but spent most of her years as a homemaker.
Mrs. Denofre was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church while in Negaunee, and most recently was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming. She was also a member of the Negaunee Lady Elks where she volunteered making pasties, the Negaunee Eagles Auxiliary, the Negaunee City Cribbage League, and the Negaunee and Ishpeming bowling leagues. She enjoyed line dancing, swing dancing, playing cards at the Negaunee and Ishpeming Senior Centers, knitting, and watching sporting events, especially basketball.
Surviving are her son, Tom (Nancy) Russo of Marquette; two daughters, Mary Jo (Les) Larmour of DePere, Wis. and Julie (Randy) Alderton of Ishpeming; seven grandchildren, Sandra (Doug) Maedke, Terri (Richard) Meyers, Scott Larmoour, Matthew (Ashley) Russo and Mark Russo, Kyle Brown, and Nick Alderton; 10 great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephew, Carol Jean Donway, Mary Ellen Moul and Jim Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry “Hank” Denofre in 1981; three sisters, Helen Sedenquist, Kathleen Dudley, Jeanette Nelson; and a brother, Donald Bruyere.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Greg R. Heikkila officiating. Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday, and also at a reception following the Mass in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Ishpeming and Negaunee Senior Centers in Elaine’s memory.
