ESCANABA – Al Lord, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 83. He was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wis., and was the son of Denham and Mary (Jostes) Lord. Al graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in 1947. He then served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged.
Al worked for the Delta Music Center in Escanaba prior to managing their new location in Marinette, Wis. He returned to Escanaba and married Barbara Morin on Jan. 16, 1960. In 1963 he started his career with Prudential Life Insurance Agency, retiring in 1988. An accomplished accordion player, Al loved all facets of music. He performed with many local groups including the Ivan Kobasic Orchestra and Al Adams’ Band. He also played at various local bar rooms, dance halls and many local landmarks including The Dells, House of Ludington, Terrace Gardens and The Four Seasons. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 354, Eagles Lodge, Escanaba Country Club and the Civil Air Patrol.
Al is survived by wife, Barbara; sons, Brian (Tasha) Lord of Livonia, Mich.; Kevin (Shannon) Lord of Largo, Fla.; granddaughter, Sophia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Allyson Rae, and brothers, William “Bill” and Denham “Denny” Lord.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Al Lord will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erik Heskin officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services at the Bethany Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
