Scouts present blankets to local vets

ESCANABA – North Woods Home Care and Hospice was presented with a donation of eight patriotic handmade blankets from Girl Scout Troop 5280 from the Big Bay de Noc area. The blankets will be given to veterans who are hospice patients as part of North Woods’ “We Honor Veterans” program.

Troop Leaders Rachel Leckson and Sally Shiverdecker said the girls wanted to complete a project to earn their community service badge.

“They wanted to do something that was fun and would help our Veterans,” stated Leckson, “Many of the Girl Scouts have family members who are Veterans or are currently serving on active duty. It was a project with meaning and the finished product gave them a sense of accomplishment and a smile knowing they will go to local people who have served their country in the Armed Forces.”

Caleb Varoni, a representative of North Woods, said, “We are overwhelmed at such a thoughtful and generous donation. Troop 5280 used deeds instead of words to help our community. They set a wonderful example for us all. You can be sure we will pay it forward to our Veterans, who have sacrificed so much and asked so little in return.”
