Bernadette Lucille Milkiewicz

ESCANABA – Bernadette Lucille Milkiewicz, fondly known as “Bun.” 92, of Escanaba, passed away with her loving family by her side Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

She was born on April 14, 1921, one of 13 children to the late Joseph and Rose (Morin) Villeneuve, in Shaffer, Mich. She attended grade school in Escanaba and worked at home raising five boys. Bernadette married the late Casimir Milkiewicz on June 13, 1939, at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. They lived in Gwinn, Mich., for a few years and then moved to Pulaski, Wis., where Casimir managed a Red Owl store. They later moved back to Escanaba and eventually owned SAV-MOR IGA on Stephenson Avenue. They raised their children in Ford River where she entertained many family members and friends.

Bernadette was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and wading along the beach and spending time with family and friends.

She was a devoted wife and mother with strong Christian beliefs.

Bernadette is survived by four sons, Sydney (Marge) Milkiewicz, David (Mary) Milkiewicz, Ric (Lois) Milkiewicz, and Terry (Carol) Milkiewicz, all living in the area. She also had eight grandchildren, Mark (Kerri) Milkiewicz of Flint, Tiffany (Bart) Miller of Escanaba, Stacy (Troy) Smith of Gladstone, Danielle (Jeff) Jones of Swartz Creek, Nick (Jen) Milkiewicz of Escanaba, Theresa (Dave) Shepeck of Gladstone, Chris (Dan) Stasewich of Munising, and Jon (Tina) Gendron of Rapid River; 11 great-grandchildren, Michael Milkiewicz, Hunter Shope, Chloe and Colin Smith, Taylor, Page, Alexis and Landon Jones, Samantha Paridise, Mackenzie Shepeck, Mallorie and Ben Stasewich, Alexandria, Andrea and Lucas Gendron; one sister, Teresa Radecki of Pulaski, Wis.; sister-in-law, Beverly Villeneuve of Freemont, Minn.; brother-in-law, Leo Milkiewicz of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernadette was preceded in death by her husband, Casimir, of 61 years; son, Stephen; five sisters and seven brothers.

Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 2, from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church with Rev. Dane Radecki officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Entombment will be in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.
