Escanaba couple celebrates golden anniversary
ESCANABA – Willie and Karen LaMarche celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 20 with a church service held at St. Anthony Church in Wells. An anniversary reception was held at the Terrace with the couple’s three children and families.
Willie LaMarche and the former Karen Miller were married July 20, 1963, during a ceremony held at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba. Original attendants were Kris (Miller) Prica, sister of the bride, and Mike Wagner, a friend of the groom.
Willie was owner and operator of Willie’s Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 2002. Karen was the bookkeeper for her husband’s company. She also retired in 2002.
Willie is a member of St. Anthony/St. Thomas Church, Wells Lions Club, Elks, 4-wheeling group, and the Holy Name Reunion Committee. He is also the chairman of U.P. Diabetes Lions Club and is a major fund-raiser for Escanaba Hockey.
The couple are the parents of three children: Joanne (David) Chenier of Gladstone; and Dan (Kim) LaMarche and Ray (Kim) LaMarche, both of Escanaba.
They also have nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
