Bolms married 50 years
BARK RIVER – Harry and Janet Bolm celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner with family and friends at Pacino’s Restaurant in Escanaba, hosted by their children.
Following the dinner, the couple’s grandchildren entertained everyone with a poem and a skit, starting with Harry in the Air Force at Fort Lee, Va., meeting Janet, who was working for VEPCo in Richmond, Va., in May 1961.
After dating for two years, the couple were married on June 14, 1963, during a ceremony that took place at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Richmond. They made their home in Richmond until June 1967. Harry was honorably discharged in June 1964 and then went to work for Burroughs Corp. until April 1967. Janet worked for VEPCo from 1961 to 1967.
In June 1967 they moved to Falls Church, Va., where Harry became a driver for Trailways Bus Lines until November 1968.
While in Virginia, the couple became parents of two children, Vicki and Marc.
In November 1968, while vacationing in the Upper Peninsula, they fell in love with the area so they moved to Bark River where Harry was raised. Harry took a short-time job with Farmer Supply in Escanaba until the highway was calling again. In February 1969, he began work for Graham Trucking and remained there until May 1970 when he went to Smeester Brothers Trucking. In October 1984, he became an owner/operator.
In 1985, Janet decided to join him and become a truck driver. They became an over-the-road team and traveled the USA together.
In March 1995, Harry started his own business, Harry’s Yard Services, which he operated until October 1997 when the highway was calling again – this time with Niagara Logistics where he’s still employed.
In addition to their two children, Harry and Janet also have three grandchildren, Georgia Bolm, and Morgan and Blake Pfiester.
