Lucille A. ‘Lou’ Bichler

ESCANABA – Lucille A. “Lou” Bichler, 95, 1215 2nd Ave S., Escanaba, passed away late Sunday evening, Aug. 18, 2013 at Bishop Noa Home.

She was born on May 20, 1918 in Escanaba, daughter of Alex and Exilda (Gardner) Charon. Lou attended Newhall School and then Escanaba Junior and Senior High Schools.

On Oct. 8, 1935, Lucille Charon married Peter Plouff at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1953. She later married John V. Bichler at Holy Family Church on Oct. 20, 1956, and preceded her in death.

For 13 years, Lou worked as a bartender at the Buck Inn. She also was employed at Marble Arms as a machinist, retiring in May of 1981.

She was a member of Holy Family Church and an active member of the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. Lou was also a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul, Senior Citiizens in Flat Rock and was a trustee for the Escanaba Township.

Survivors include her children, William (Janice) Plouff of Cornell, Dale (Linda) Plouff of Gladstone, Beverly (Thomas) Beauchamp of Soo Hill, Luella (Ronald) Smith of Gladstone and Bonnie (Marshall) Sodergren of Escanaba; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

-Visitation will be on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Rev. John Longbucco officiating.

Burial will immediately follow the funeral in the Escanaba Township Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Bichler family with arrangements.
