Michael G. Steede
ESCANABA – The “Music Man” played his last song. Michael G. Steede, 62, passed away peacefully, at home, on Aug. 18, 2013.
Mike was born July 1, 1951, in Escanaba, the son of Richard and Ethel (Sorrow) Steede. He was raised in Escanaba and was a 1969 graduate of the Escanaba High School. Mike continued his education, obtained his Radiologic Technologist Degree and was employed for an impressive 36 years at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. Mike’s musical talent gave him the knowledge to play many instruments throughout the course of his life. He was a member of the 1960s rock band “Prophets of Doom” and loved singing songs, which included, Elvis, The Righteous Brothers and Johnny Cash, for the entertainment of family and friends. Mike looked forward to his jam sessions every summer in Isabella, with Johnny Gouin. He enjoyed hunting, camping, Black Bear basketball, music and the Detroit Lions. Mike was a good friend to Tom and Ivan and many others. He was well loved for his kindness and generosity and will be sadly missed by all.
Mike is survived by his loving companion, Joan Dufour of Escanaba; son, Jeremy Steede of Nashville; daughters, Jessica Steede of Clarksville, Tenn., Jenny Fitzpatrick of Escanaba, Jaylene Steede of Escanaba; Brother, Terry (Tracey) Steede of Taylor, Mich.; sisters, Michelle (Merle) Gustafson of Tucson, Ariz., JoAnne Steinbrecher of Tucson; aunts, Trudy (Karen) Steede of Tucson, Marian (Fred) Norlin of Goulais Bay, Canada; grandchildren, Ava and Troy Fitzpatrick, Madelyn, Katlyn and Jordan; best friend, Tom (Dr. Carol) Kolinsky of Escanaba. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ethel; and aunt Lillian (Dale) Watchorn.
Mike’s family will receive friends on Friday from 3-6 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Michael G. Steede will follow visiting hours, at 6 p.m., at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba, with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson of the St. Joseph St. Patrick Church officiating.
