Allen J. Geroy
BARK RIVER – Allen J. Geroy, 61, 5660 E.5 Road, Bark River (Schaffer), passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Allen was born in Traverse City, Mich., on July 22, 1952, the son of John and Mary (Herman) Geroy. He was raised in Traverse City and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1970.
He moved to Schaffer in 1983.
Allen Geroy married Dolores Guenette on June 28, 1986, in Traverse City.
He enjoyed stock car racing where he worked in the pit crew for Dale Leisner. He was in several bands playing key boards, drums and the accordion. He also did some singing. He loved his three German shepherds.
While in Traverse City, he was employed at a foundry that made fire hydrants, he was a tow truck driver and volunteer fireman and ambulance driver.
In his later working years, he was employed for Sysco Foods as a truck driver. He retired in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores of Schaffer; son, David (Krista) Geroy of Traverse City; daughter, Ann (Kevin) Taghon of Honor, Mich.; stepdaughter, Kristine (Christopher) Reynolds of Riverland; stepson, David Dubord of Henderson, Nev.; four grandchildren, Kevin and Michelle Taghon, Kyle LaJoie and Cassidy Ring; great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Baribeau; three sisters, Sharon (Randy) Wheelock, Sherry (Jim) Hertreiter and Sue Ellen (Jerry) Cook all of Traverse City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen; and sister, Sally.
Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. A luncheon will follow the mass in the church hall.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer after the luncheon.
